Destination
Ilok
Ilok pairs a fortified old core above the Danube with museum collections and historic wine cellars. Plan Principovac as a separate vineyard outing, with time for a meal and an overnight stay.

About the destination
Walk the old core
Begin around the surviving fortifications and Odescalchi Castle, then include the church and monastery of St John of Capistrano. The tourist board’s heritage guide brings these principal sights together. Pause for the Danube setting as well as the buildings: the historic core stands above the river. If your accommodation is lower in town, account for the uphill approach when deciding where to start your walk.
Explore the town museum
Inside Odescalchi Castle, the Museum of the Town of Ilok follows the area’s story from prehistory through successive periods of settlement to recent history. Its scope also includes nearby Bapska, Šarengrad and Mohovo, adding context to the wider Srijem landscape. Choose this as the main indoor visit and allow time for the collections. Check visiting and guided-tour arrangements directly, particularly if you want interpretation in a specific language.
Connect cellars and a meal
The Stari podrum complex lies in the medieval core and combines historic cellar visits with wine tastings, a restaurant and accommodation. Decide whether you want a cellar tour, a tasting or a full meal, then arrange the appropriate visit with the operator. An overnight stay nearby can keep the historic centre and dinner within the same part of town. Plan any transfer before a tasting.
Set aside time for Principovac
Principovac is a vineyard estate about four kilometres south of Ilok, with a historic country house amid the vines. It provides a different landscape from the old core and deserves its own journey. Compare staying here with staying in town according to the visits you want to make. Ask about current dining and tasting arrangements, and include the return to your accommodation in the plan. A town-and-cellar day followed by a vineyard outing gives each setting room.
