Start with the spa town’s history

Krapinske Toplice grew around thermal springs, but its character is also visible in parks and the nineteenth-century development associated with Jakob Badl. Begin in the central park and look at how the bathing tradition shaped the town around it. This is a living place with medical institutions as well as visitors on holiday; hospital facilities are not automatically part of a sightseeing or pool visit.

Choose a valley walk or a hill

The Chestnut Alley links the centre with Klokovec and offers one direction for exploring on foot. For a different perspective, plan the climb towards Badl’s mausoleum near St Mary Magdalene’s chapel above town. These are different outings, so choose according to the terrain, weather and time you have. Use the local walking information before leaving the central park rather than assuming every route is level.

Plan the water park separately

Aquae Vivae is the place to check for a recreational pool visit, its current facilities and admission notices. Special programmes can change visitor arrangements on particular dates. Choose your pool time before adding a walk or dinner, and check any extras directly with the operator.

Stay for the food and a slower evening

A central base and a hillside stay lead to different walking and transport plans.
