About the destination
Explore the hilltop village
Lubenice stands on a cliff about 378 metres above the sea, with broad views over the Kvarner coast. Take time to walk its narrow, winding lanes and look for the remains of the old walls and gates. The Cres Tourist Board highlights the Gothic church of St Anthony the Abbot near the village entrance, the parish church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and a small museum devoted to sheep breeding and wool. Its Lubenice guide is a useful starting point for the village’s history and landmarks. In summer, the City of Cres also organizes Lubenice Musical Evenings, with concerts in the church and village square; check the city’s current event information for dates.
Plan the beach as a separate outing
Sveti Ivan lies in the cove below the village and can be reached by boat or on foot. The tourist board describes the trail as steep and narrow and estimates roughly 45-50 minutes for the descent; allow additional time for the uphill return. Its beach information says there are no facilities at the shore, so bring water, food and suitable footwear. If you prefer a boat transfer, arrange it with a local operator and confirm the return before setting out. The village visit and beach hike are different plans, so leave enough time for both only if the descent and climb suit you.
