Village, vineyards and ancient roots

Lumbarda spreads between low hills and bays near Korčula town. Fishing, seafaring and stone-working traditions give the village depth beyond its beaches, while the sandy vineyards make the farming landscape distinctive. The Lumbarda Psephisma, an inscription linked to Greek settlement, adds an ancient chapter. The original is kept at the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb.

Choose the shore that suits your day

The official beach guide separates Vela Pržina, Bilin Žal and Tatinja. Pržina and Bilin Žal lie on different sides of the vineyard landscape, giving you choices according to wind and the kind of beach day you want. Pick one as your main swimming stop and leave time for the route there. For walking between village, vineyards and shore, bring shoes as well as beach equipment and carry water.

Make Grk a tasting experience

Lumbarda’s indigenous white Grk wine is closely tied to its sandy vineyards; Plavac Mali is also grown here. The tourist board’s winery directory includes Bire, and the producer’s contact page gives a direct route to arranging a visit. Ask which wines and any food are included, then allow time to enjoy the tasting. Organise the return journey beforehand.

Plan food and a convenient base

Use the tourist board’s dining guide to choose between village restaurants, konobas and beach-side stops such as Bilin Žal. Confirm your chosen meal or tasting arrangement directly. For accommodation, compare a village address with one closer to Pržina or the vineyard edge. Consider the evening walk back from dinner as well as the morning trip to the beach. From Korčula town, arrange the onward transfer to Lumbarda separately from the island arrival; for an overnight stay, one beach, a tasting and a relaxed meal make a varied day.
