Begin with the town and Fortica

Start with a walk through Otočac and use the official centre map to connect the town park, museum area and Fortica hill. The hill gives a wider view across the town and valley, making it a useful contrast to the riverside landscape. Choose the climb according to your walking ability and conditions; the urban circuit and the countryside excursions do not need to fit into the same short visit.

Check what the museum offers now

The Gacka Museum introduces the history of Otočac and its region, but its own site, checked on 16 October 2026, says the permanent exhibition is temporarily unavailable during a new-installation project. Consult the current programme for temporary exhibitions and other activities instead of assuming the former permanent displays can be visited. Confirm the visit directly with the museum.

The springs are outside town

For the Gacka landscape and watermill heritage, make a separate trip towards the springs near Sinac, including Majerovo vrilo. This is a different destination from the town centre, so arrange the outward and return journey. Give yourself time beside the water and ask locally about access to individual mills. For kayaking, cycling or fishing, confirm routes, equipment and any required permissions with the relevant provider.

Trout and a valley base

The tourism board’s restaurant directory highlights trout dishes and gives addresses for meals in the area. Choose a stop along your actual route and ask what is available; riverside dining can be part of the valley excursion rather than an extra return to town. A central overnight address suits town walks, while a rural property may fit a spring-focused stay. Check distances and transport before treating an Otočac address as a location beside the springs.
