About the destination
Choose the canyon and entrance
Paklenica National Park has two official entrances: Entrance 1 at Velika Paklenica and Entrance 2 at Mala Paklenica. The park’s visitor information describes Velika Paklenica as the main choice for walkers and climbers, with the canyon, the Underground Secrets visitor centre and Manita peć among its best-known stops. Mala Paklenica is a different, more demanding outing: the park says its canyon trail is for experienced hikers, and that this entrance operates seasonally. Check the current entrance and trail notices before you travel.
Match the walk to your day
The park has 150-200 kilometres of trails and paths, from tourist routes in Velika Paklenica toward Manita peć cave, Lugarnica and the mountain hut to hiking routes reaching Velebit peaks. This makes it useful to decide in advance whether you want a canyon walk or a longer mountain outing. Routes are marked with red-and-white signs, with direction boards at crossings; the park recommends allowing time for the return and consulting its hiking map. Treat the cave and visitor centre as separate stops with their own current visitor information. For an overnight stay, the park lists its mountain hut and shelters, as well as campsites, apartments, rooms and hotels in the surrounding Riviera Paklenica area.
