About the destination
From St Bartholomew to the vineyards
The fortified medieval church of St Bartholomew is one of Petrčane’s distinctive landmarks. Beyond the waterfront, vineyards and olive-growing land recall the village’s agricultural roots. The coast and the cultivated slopes have shaped the place together.
A name preserved since 1071
The earliest record of Petrčane dates from 1071, in documents of Zadar’s Benedictine monastery of St Mary. It concerns land belonging to the nun Čika. St Sabina and a 1175 mention of St Virgil add further traces of the village’s religious history.
Along the headlands
Punta Skala and Punta Radman frame different parts of the coastal landscape, alongside Gornje and Donje Petrčane. Explore the waterfront and beaches, then look inland towards the fields that long sustained the village. For a tasting, arrange a visit directly with a local producer.
