Destination
Račišće, Korčula
Račišće is a seafaring village for harbour walks, a konoba meal and time beside the water. Give Vaja and Samograd their own outing beyond the village bay.
About the destination
Follow the harbour
Račišće curves around a bay on Korčula’s northern coast, west of Korčula town. Walk past the stone houses along the waterfront, with the hills rising behind them. Leave time for a swim or a meal after exploring the harbour. The coastal approach through Kneže gives another perspective on the island’s northern shore.
Find the seafaring story
The tourist board’s village guide links Račišće with generations of sailors and a once substantial fleet of small sailing ships. Look for the older church of Our Lady Help of Christians and the parish church of St Nicholas, the patron of seafarers. Their setting adds context to the harbour walk. Treat the churches as part of village heritage and enquire locally if you want to see inside.
Choose village water or a beach outing
The village bay is convenient for a short stop by the water. Vaja and Samograd lie beyond the village; the latter is known for its pebble shore. Allow time for the walk to an outlying beach and bring water and suitable shoes.
Stay by the harbour
A waterfront konoba meal fits naturally after the walk; ask about the day’s fish and other Dalmatian dishes. When booking an apartment, compare its exact position with the harbour and the route you intend to walk. Arrange the onward journey from Korčula town to your accommodation. An overnight stay gives time for both the village and one of the western beach coves.
