Slavonski Brod
Connect Slavonski Brod through its fortress, House of Tambura and Brlić family house. Military history, music and literature give the city several reasons for a full-day visit.

About the destination
Build the day around the fortress
Start with the Brod Fortress to understand the scale of the city’s former military role. Its broad spaces and surviving buildings reward more than a quick photograph. Choose a cultural stop within the complex, such as the House of Tambura, where the instrument and its place in Slavonian life become the focus. You do not need to fit every exhibition into one visit.
From literature to the Sava
Continue to the main square and the Brlić family house, whose interpretation centre explores the world of writer Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić. This gives the day a different theme from the fortress. Leave room afterwards for a walk along the Sava and a pause by the river. If travelling with people who have different interests, agree on one main indoor visit and keep the rest of the route flexible.
Before you set out
The fortress grounds, exhibitions and Brlić house should not be treated as one attraction with a single timetable. Check each intended visit, and arrange any guided or living-history programme separately. Use the Tourist Board’s fortress guide and Brlić house information to plan. Keep an indoor alternative for rain and allow unhurried time between stops.
Before you set out
Plan your visit
Choose the pace, check the journey and keep a second option for the day.
Time to allow
Keep a full day for the fortress, one exhibition, the main square and a Sava-side pause. This is an editorial estimate. Choose the House of Tambura or the Brlić family house as a focused visit rather than rushing both between other stops.
Without a car
Confirm the bus or train you will use and your return, then connect the central sights on foot. Check the precise entrance for each booked exhibition. The fortress is a complex of different venues, not one attraction with a single entrance and timetable.
Arriving by car
Use signed parking near your first stop and check the current conditions. If a guided programme provides meeting instructions, follow those rather than a generic fortress map pin. Ask your accommodation about its own space and any event-related access changes.
Rain, heat and a change of plan
For rain, check the House of Tambura or Brlić house programme and opening times. Keep the Sava walk for a clearer interval; for heat, put it early or late. Living-history programmes need a separate arrangement and should not be assumed to run on every visit.
