About the destination
Choose a village as your starting point
Ugljan is an island with several distinct settlements, not just the port of Preko. Passenger ships connect Zadar with Preko; check Jadrolinija’s current route and sailing schedule before you travel. In Preko, the Venetian fortress of St Michael stands above the village, and the small islet of Galevac (Školjić) is another nearby stop. Farther along the island, Ugljan and nearby Muline offer a different focus: the monastery of St Jerome, mosaic benches and traces of the island’s old olive-oil pressing tradition.
Match the day to your interests
For a seaside walk, the Zadar Region Tourist Board points to Kukljica’s promenade and trails through olive groves and pine woods. Kali is the island’s fishing village, with a long fishing tradition and local seafood. These are separate places along the island, so plan your transport between them rather than assuming every stop is next to Preko. Browse the regional tourist board’s Ugljan guide for village-by-village ideas, then check local information for the places you want to visit. If you are bringing a vehicle, confirm which ferry service and port suit your route; the passenger line to Preko is separate from vehicle-ferry connection from Gaženica.
