About the destination
Choose your stretch of coast
Vir is an island about 25 kilometres from Zadar, joined to the mainland at Privlaka by a road bridge. The one-kilometre Jadro beach and promenade combines swimming with a walk along the shore. Elsewhere, the official tourist board describes beaches tucked into bays, many shaded by pine or holm-oak trees. Browse its beach guide and pick a cove to match your day. Because the island is reached by road, you can plan a stay around the part of the coast you prefer rather than a ferry port.
Add a heritage stop
For a change from the water, visit the remains of Kaštelina, a Venetian fortress probably built in the early 16th century, while Villa Lanterna on the western coast is a restored historic lighthouse dating from 1881. The official sights page gives background on both. Vir’s tourism board also lists cycling routes and island gastronomy, alongside seasonal beach bars and nightlife. Use its current destination pages to shape your plans, and check local listings for what is operating during your visit.
