Destination

Vodice

A lively North Dalmatian coastal town where a walkable stone centre, beaches and nearby archaeological landscapes fit into one stay.

About the destination

Vodice is a lively coastal town west of Šibenik, but its centre still rewards a slow walk. Stone houses, narrow lanes, the parish church and smaller heritage sites sit behind a waterfront shaped by fishing, passenger boats and modern tourism. A self-guided route with information points covers the compact historic area, making it possible to understand the town before choosing the busier beaches and evening venues.

The wider Vodice landscape adds depth to the visit. Inland paths lead through olive groves and dry-stone country toward Okit hill, while archaeological sites such as Velika Mrdakovica preserve evidence of Liburnian and Roman settlement. These places are outside the central promenade, so plan transport, sun protection and water rather than treating them as a casual extension of a beach walk.

Along the coast, visitors can combine swimming with walking or cycling toward Srima. Boat and activity operators also use Vodice as a base for trips through the Šibenik archipelago and toward protected natural areas, but routes and schedules change seasonally. Give the old centre a morning and the archaeological sites or hinterland a separate half-day, leaving time for the beach and waterfront.

Plan your stay in Vodice

Stay. The Vodice Tourist Board hotel directory lists Hotel Olympia and Olympia Sky near the sea, and Hotel Punta on its pine-covered peninsula. The town also has private apartments and villas. Compare the actual property location and availability before booking; an address in nearby Srima is not in Vodice town.

Eat. The tourist board lists Bistro Gulož on Obala Matice hrvatske and other restaurants and taverns around town. Check each venue’s current menu, season and reservation details directly.

Explore. Hangar Beach is a shingle beach near the Olympia hotels with beach facilities. Beyond the waterfront, Okit hill has the Church of Our Lady of Carmel, while Velika Mrdakovica preserves traces of a Liburnian-Roman settlement. Plan separate transport for the inland sites.

Go out. The tourist board’s club directory lists Makina on Obala J. I. Cota and Opium on Herfordska. Check the venue’s current programme and opening hours before going: a listing does not guarantee an event on a particular night.
