Start at the mandrać

Volosko gathers around a small fishing harbour at the northern edge of Opatija. Walk the waterfront, then climb the stone steps into lanes with galleries and artists’ studios. Near the beginning of the Lungomare, look for the birthplace and memorial to geophysicist Andrija Mohorovičić. Choose a coastal walk or a swim

The Lungomare leads south through Opatija and onwards to Lovran. You can walk just the first stretch and return to the harbour for lunch. For swimming, head to Črnikovica, where pebbles and paved areas offer a different setting from the working harbour. The stepped old lanes and the coastal promenade are distinct parts of the visit.

Make time for a meal
