About the destination
A bay of Dubrovnik summer houses
The bay of Zaton stretches for about two kilometres, taking in Veliki Zaton, Mali Zaton, Štikovica and Vrbica. Its sheltered coastal setting attracted Dubrovnik families, who built summer residences along the water.
Gardens and family names
The Gučetić, Menčetić and Sorkočević residences preserve the names of families associated with the bay’s country-house culture. Buildings and gardens form part of the view as you walk along the shore. Some remain private, so an interior visit needs prior arrangement.
Where fresh water meets the bay
The Vrelo springs and former mills tell a story beyond seafaring and summer estates. Follow the bay towards its freshwater end, then return to the shore for a swim. Sea outings from Zaton offer another way to see the coastline from the water.
