Šibenik for a concert: let the fortress set the occasion
Choose the performance first and build the day around it.

Start with the programme
Look up the programmes published by Tvrđava kulture and confirm the exact venue of your event. The organiser’s name does not tell you which entrance to use. Save your ticket and follow official notices about any changes.
Tvrđava kulture manages St. Michael’s, Barone and St. John’s fortresses, as well as the House of Art Arsen. They are separate venues. St. Nicholas’ Fortress stands at the entrance to St. Anthony’s Channel: give that visit its own plan, rather than treating it as another stop on the climb through the old town.
Morning: begin around the cathedral
For a concert at St. Michael’s, start the daytime part around the Cathedral of St. James and its square. Look closely at the carved human heads around the exterior instead of making the cathedral only a backdrop for photographs. Decide here whether you want to visit inside; keeping the morning to the square and exterior is also a worthwhile choice.
If you want one quieter stop among the old-town lanes, consider the St. Lawrence Monastery Mediterranean Garden at Strme stube 1. Its cross-shaped paths and aromatic and medicinal plants offer a different detail from the surrounding stonework. Check the garden’s current visiting arrangements. This is an optional addition with an uphill approach, so leave it out if you are saving your energy for the evening.
One daytime fortress is enough
If you also want a daytime visit, choose one fortress and check the approach. Do not assume all the fortresses form one easy walking route. Allow a rest before an evening climb, especially in warm weather.
After your chosen visit, make lunch and a proper seated break the next part of the day. If the concert is already taking you to St. Michael’s, there is no need to add Barone and St. John’s simply to complete a list. Someone keen on a daytime fortress visit can choose that instead of the garden and longer old-town walk.
If the concert is at St. Michael’s
Use St. Anne’s Cemetery as the landmark for the southern entrance from town; the fortress address is Zagrađe 21. From the cathedral area, plan your climb through the old-town lanes and steps towards that entrance on a map. Treat the ascent as the last part of the outing, after your break. Check the event instructions before setting off, since the entrance used for the performance matters more than the daytime sightseeing route.
The northern entrance is approached from the fire station or Ana Rukavina Park. Save the correct side of the fortress on your map, especially if you are meeting friends who arrive separately. If steps are a concern, ask the organiser about suitable access for that particular concert before committing to the old-town climb.
A shorter day before the show
Keep the outing to a waterfront walk, the cathedral square and a meal, then go to the confirmed concert entrance. Skip the garden and daytime fortress visit. You still get a sense of the city without repeating the ascent. If your ticket names Arsen, Barone or St. John’s, replace the St. Michael’s approach with directions to that venue; keep the same simple rhythm of one visit, a break and the performance.
Separate sightseeing from the show
Check what a daytime admission includes and what requires an event ticket. A performance can affect daytime visiting arrangements. Agree on a meeting point and a way home before the concert, leaving the end of the evening for music rather than travel arrangements.
