Makarska before dinner: Sveti Petar or Osejava?

Decide what you want from the walk

You do not need a Biokovo excursion to take a break from central Makarska. There are two different coastal options: Sveti Petar and Osejava. Choose the first for recognisable landmarks and a view back towards the harbour. Give the second priority when walking and getting away from waterfront tables matter more. Avoid turning both into a compulsory circuit. One enjoyable outing before dinner can provide enough activity without making the rest of your evening feel rushed.

Give Sveti Petar a clear destination

On the Sveti Petar peninsula you can combine the church, the saint’s statue and views towards town. Choose one as your destination instead of simply following other walkers. On a first visit, use this pause to compare the harbour’s position with the mountain behind Makarska. Friends can walk at their own pace, but agree where to meet before splitting up. Check access if you want to enter the church; an outdoor visit does not depend on its doors being open.

Choose Osejava when walking comes first

Osejava lies on Makarska’s southern side and has pine woodland and a network of paths. Set out for a walk rather than assuming every branch is maintained like the central waterfront. Decide how much time to allow and keep a clear return route on your map. Do not add a distant beach merely because it appears as a suggestion on your phone. If the point is conversation and movement, the woodland already provides a worthwhile focus.

Fit dinner around the direction you choose

If you have a reservation, work back from its time and leave enough room to return. If you do not, avoid turning the walk into a race towards an imaginary table. Save the other side of town for tomorrow, giving yourself two genuinely different breaks from swimming. One puts the harbour and urban details first; the other puts pines and a longer walk first. This is not a timed route: adapt it to your starting point, companions and the day’s conditions.
