Makarska between Sveti Petar and Osejava

A coastal day that begins at the harbour and makes space for the city’s greener edges.

Start with the shape of the harbour

Before choosing a walking route, spend a little time looking across Makarska’s harbour. Sveti Petar and Osejava frame different sides of this coastal setting, giving you two possible directions rather than one compulsory circuit. Decide which suits the light, the weather and your energy. The waterfront makes a useful starting point because you can keep the outing short or build a longer day around it without immediately committing to both peninsulas.

A closer look at Sveti Petar

The Sveti Petar peninsula combines Mediterranean vegetation, walking paths and views towards the sea and Biokovo. Its lighthouse gives the coastal scenery a recognisable feature. Move at a pace that lets you look back towards the city as well as out to the horizon. You need not leave the established paths to find an interesting angle; changing your viewpoint by a few steps can be enough for a different photograph.

Plan Osejava around actual access

Osejava needs a current access check before you make it the centre of your walk. In April 2026, the City of Makarska announced promenade works and temporary movement restrictions on parts of the peninsula. That announcement does not establish which paths are open on your visiting day. Consult the latest local information and follow signs on site. If your intended stretch is unavailable, choose another part of the waterfront instead of improvising through works.

Return to the city for the evening

Give the day a comfortable landing with a meal or a drink near where you want to finish. A short coastal outing can be as satisfying as a long one when it leaves time to notice the setting. Keep water, sun protection and suitable shoes with you, and separate this walk from any larger mountain excursion. Seeing Biokovo from the coast is its own experience; climbing it belongs to a different plan.

Pick one peninsula for this visit

Choose between Sveti Petar and Osejava only after checking which access suits your day. You do not need to connect both to make a complete coastal walk. If Osejava information is uncertain, keep the waterfront or the other confirmed part as your plan and decide again locally. That gives you an alternative without treating a dated notice as a live access update.

Keep the ending close to your energy

After your walk, return towards the part of town where you want to eat or rest. Decide then whether you have energy for another short stretch, rather than adding distance at the start. If you are travelling with others, agree on a comfortable turnaround and keep the group together where paths or access conditions are uncertain.
