One day around Mljet’s lakes
A focused day in the national park: a lakeside walk and, if connections fit, St Mary’s Island.

Before you go
Start from accommodation on Mljet, or use this plan only after confirming transport to and from the park. An arrival elsewhere on the island is not an arrival at the lakes. Check park entry, local transfers and the St Mary’s boat separately. Prožurska Luka and the Odysseus Cave are outside this route.
Day 1: Keep the day by the lakes
Choose a lakeside route
At the visitor point, choose a marked route around part of Veliko or Malo Jezero that fits your return time. You do not need to complete a full circuit. Stop whenever a view makes you want to linger.

St Mary’s Island, if it fits · Optional
Check the boat arrangements before committing to the island visit. St Mary’s lies in Veliko Jezero and has a monastery complex. Leave enough time for the return boat; if connections are tight, stay with the lakeside walk instead.
Along the way: Allow time for a meal or the food you brought, then return along your planned route. Keep your park exit and onward transport time in view. This is a day around the lakes, so resist adding a drive across the whole island before departure.
Official information
Set your return point first
Before choosing the walk, identify the park exit and onward connection you need to make. Work back from that confirmed time, leaving room for the route to the departure point and for a pause by the water. If the connection changes, shorten the walk before setting out rather than trying to recover time at the end.
Choose the island visit only after checking the boat
Treat St Mary as the day’s main optional stop. Check the current boat arrangement and return before you commit to it; if the timing leaves little room, enjoy the lakeside route instead. The island visit is not a requirement for a complete day in the park.
Keep the plan to one area and one main activity. A walk with time to stop is enough; adding a cross-island drive or another distant stop can make the return less relaxed. Leave the final stretch flexible so the day can respond to your pace and conditions.
