Motovun for lunch: truffles, pasta and time at the table
Make one considered meal the centre of the day, see the historic core before sitting down and ask the questions that matter when ordering truffles.

Check the menu before setting out
For a specific starting point, look at Konoba Mondo at Barbacan 1 beside Motovun’s historic centre. The restaurant presents Istrian cooking and truffle dishes. Read the current offer and check your intended visiting time before travelling; a table photograph or an older review does not establish availability. If the menu or prices do not suit you, finding out at home is useful. A food-led trip should begin with your preferences, not an obligation to fulfil somebody else’s recommendation.
See a little of town before a longer lunch
Arrive with time for the historic core and Trg Andrea Antico. Do that before eating, when you will not have to choose between finishing lunch and finishing the sightseeing. Notice how squares, gateways and the surrounding landscape fit together without trying to include every monument. If you also want the town walls, first check access and whether the visit fits. Otherwise leave them for a return trip where exploring the town is the main purpose.
Ask what the truffle order actually includes
At the restaurant, ask which truffle dishes are available that day, which truffle is used and what the price includes. Fresh truffle, an extra topping and other truffle products are not identical orders. Motovun’s food culture also includes Teran wine, olive oil and seasonal produce; one meal need not contain everything. Choose courses around what interests your group and what you want to spend, leaving room to enjoy the meal rather than turning it into a checklist.
Finish without racing through tastings
After lunch, walk back through the centre towards your starting point. If buying a local product, ask about its origin and ingredients instead of choosing only by a Motovun picture on the label. Treat a winery visit as a separate arrangement, not a guaranteed continuation of lunch. A satisfying meal and a town you have had time to experience make a stronger reason to return than several hurried tastings. Keep something untried for next time rather than ordering it all now.
