Start among the trees

Take the paths around the villa in Angiolina Park and find somewhere for a short pause. Do not build the visit around a promise that camellias will be flowering: the park can be enjoyed without that backdrop. You do not need to begin by booking a restaurant or a hotel package to spend a good day in Opatija.

Choose one stretch of coast

After the park, select a short part of the Lungomare and decide where to turn back. A line that looks tempting on a map does not have to become the whole outing. If visiting as a couple, let one person choose the direction and the other choose a stopping point.

Choose your one treat

Set aside what you want to spend on coffee or cake and read the menu before ordering. Budget separately for transport, parking and optional services. In poor weather, shorten the walk and stay closer to your transport. A small outing should not end with a bill you spend the rest of the day defending.
