Start with one cake and time to enjoy it

Begin on King Tomislav Square. U prolazu, at number 6, features Samobor kremšnita in its range. That gives you a specific first stop, rather than a challenge to visit every cake shop in town. If lunch is also planned, agree how much to order before everyone chooses. Allow time to sit and enjoy the cake there, instead of reducing the outing to a takeaway box in the car and a search for another parking space.

Make the next flavour savoury

Samobor muštarda is a local condiment made with mustard seed and grape must. The tourist board suggests it alongside beef, sausages and češnofka sausages. That does not mean every restaurant serves it today. When choosing lunch, look at the current menu and ask whether the local accompaniment you want to try is available. One specific question is more useful than selecting the most expensive dish merely because its description says traditional or homemade.

Leave a walk through the centre between cake and lunch, without adding a drive around the countryside. Two well-chosen food stops are enough. If a producer is unavailable, finish the day in town and make a cellar visit the reason for returning, rather than travelling to another address without checking.
