Rainy Zagreb: Upper Town and one story worth reading
Make the Museum of Broken Relationships the main event, with a short walk if the weather allows.

An approach with recognisable landmarks
From Ban Jelačić Square, head uphill along Radićeva and use Kamenita ulica and the Stone Gate as your next landmarks. Beyond the gate, orient yourself towards St. Mark’s Church, then follow Ćirilometodska to number 2. The church’s patterned roof gives the approach a worthwhile pause without adding another indoor visit. This is a walk uphill, not a sheltered transfer; follow any local pedestrian diversions rather than relying on a shortcut.
The funicular is another way to reach Upper Town. Its lower station is in Tomićeva, off Ilica. Check ZET’s current service notices before choosing this approach.
Go for the stories
Choose the Museum of Broken Relationships at Ćirilometodska 2 for a rainy afternoon. Objects lead into personal stories about relationships. Give yourself time to read instead of rushing towards a second museum. If you visit with someone, explore at your own pace first and compare impressions once both of you have finished.
The collection brings together donated personal possessions and the stories attached to them, from different parts of the world. Try looking at an object first, then reading its text and looking again: an ordinary thing can acquire a very different meaning once you know why it was kept. Choose a few accounts to read closely instead of treating every display as a box to tick. You can remember the story without photographing every label.
Leave time for a pause
Find a nearby café afterwards and talk about what stayed with you. Nobody has to share their own relationship history for the conversation to be worthwhile. If the rain eases, continue towards Strossmayer Promenade. If it does not, coffee can be a perfectly good final stop.
A short extension towards Lotrščak
If the weather has eased enough for an outdoor pause, head from the southern end of Ćirilometodska towards Lotrščak Tower and Strossmayer Promenade. The tower’s address, Strossmayerovo šetalište 9, is a useful map reference. Walk a little way along the promenade for a change from reading to looking across the city; there is no need to add a tower climb. If the rain persists, keep the shorter museum-and-coffee version and return by the approach you have already checked.
Check before heading uphill
Check the museum’s current opening information, admission and ticket arrangements. Choose an approach that suits you: Upper Town involves a climb, and individual passages or transport links may be unavailable. Visiting alone works just as well; take a notebook for a few thoughts of your own.
