Krk
Krk town combines Frankopan heritage and city walls with beaches and island food. Enter through the town gates, explore the stone centre and save time for the coast.

About the destination
Krk town: harbour first, old streets next
This plan is for Krk town, not the whole island. Use the Tourist Information Centre at J. J. Strossmayera 9 as an orientation point for your town visit. Start with the harbour promenade, then explore the old streets and Kamplin Square. The cathedral and Frankopan Castle give the walk a clear focus without turning it into a checklist.
Our suggestion: allow half a day for a leisurely town visit and a meal. Keep the rest of the day flexible if you want to add something elsewhere on the island; choose that next stop before setting off and allow for transport. This is an editorial estimate, not a timed route.
For a closer look at local history, check the Frankopan Castle and its interpretive centre. Confirm opening times and admission before planning your day around a visit.
Use the tourist board’s arrival guide to compare travel options and its useful information for local contacts. For a day trip without a car, check the return service first. If driving, check the parking signs where you stop.
Checked: 25 September 2026. In hot weather, plan the outdoor walk for a cooler part of the day; if rain changes your plans, verify that your chosen indoor venue is open.

Plan your visit
Choose the pace, check the journey and keep a second option for the day.
Time to allow
Allow half a day for Krk town’s harbour, old streets and Kamplin Square, with a meal. This is an editorial estimate for the town. An island-wide drive or beach outing needs extra time and its own route; Krk town is not the whole island.
Without a car
Use the tourist board’s arrival guide to find current bus operators and connections. Check the exact destination as well as your return. Rijeka Airport, Valbiska ferry port and Krk town are different arrival points with separate onward journeys.
Arriving by car
If coming over the bridge, follow signs to Krk town and choose a signed parking area before walking into the old streets. Check current conditions at the parking location or with your host. Arrival on the island does not provide a parking reservation in town.
Rain, heat and a change of plan
Check Frankopan Castle’s visiting arrangements before making its interior the focus. For heat, put the harbour and old-town walk in a cooler part of the day; for rain, confirm a currently open indoor visit. Do not assume every heritage building has step-free access.
