Destination

Medulin

Medulin combines a sandy beach and harbour with the Roman remains of Vižula. Use the town for an easy coastal stay, with Kamenjak as a separate outing via Premantura.

About the destination

Begin at the waterfront and Bijeca

Walk around the harbour to get a sense of Medulin’s broad, island-dotted bay, then continue towards Bijeca. Its sandy shore and gently sloping entrance offer a different beach setting from Istria’s rocky coves. Choose your bathing spot according to the surface and access you prefer. Staying near Bijeca suits repeated beach visits, while an address nearer the old centre gives a different walk to the waterfront.

Explore Roman Vižula

Set aside time for Vižula Archaeological Park, a green peninsula close to the centre. The remains of a Roman maritime villa reveal the scale and decoration of a wealthy seaside residence. Follow the interpreted paths to understand the site’s relationship with the water, rather than viewing individual ruins in isolation. Ask at the visitor information point about interpretation and any indoor or multimedia element available during your visit.

Taste southern Istria

The official gastronomy guide introduces grilled sardines, black cuttlefish risotto, fish brodet and local pasta such as fuži. Choose a harbour meal around the day’s fish or a pasta dish, and ask about local olive oil. A tasting with a producer gives olive oil its own focus; arrange it directly if you want to add it to the day. These food traditions link the resort waterfront with the wider Istrian landscape.

Plan Kamenjak from the right starting point

The protected coast of Kamenjak is approached from Premantura. Build in the journey there from Medulin and choose whether to continue by vehicle, bicycle or boat. The entry arrangements depend on how you visit, so consult the managing institution when planning. For a short stay, combine Bijeca and Vižula locally, then give Kamenjak its own day with time to return for dinner.
