Sinj
Sinj connects the Alka tradition, its Marian sanctuary and the Cetina countryside. It opens a route into the Dalmatian hinterland’s history beyond the coastal cities.

About the destination
Sinj: Alka heritage and a view from Stari Grad
Start with the Museum of the Alka of Sinj, then explore the town centre and pause for a coffee. The museum introduces the tournament through costumes, equipment and a life-size procession; a museum visit does not include watching the annual Alka tournament.
Our suggestion is a relaxed half day for the museum and centre. Add the uphill walk to Stari Grad if you want a panorama of the town and surrounding landscape. This is an editorial itinerary, not a measured route. Keep the climb optional and allow time for the return.
For a visit in hot weather, put the outdoor walk in the cooler part of the day and bring water. If rain changes your plans, check the museum’s opening hours first. Ask the venue about step-free access or other specific access needs before travelling.
Coming from Split without a car? Check the current bus service and your return connection. The tourist board’s arrival guide covers road and public transport options. If driving, follow the parking signs on arrival; this guide does not promise a free space or a fixed parking price.
Checked: 26 September 2026. Explore Sinj Tourist Board’s suggestions and its museum introduction. Confirm museum hours, admission and tournament dates separately before booking.
Before you set out
Plan your visit
Choose the pace, check the journey and keep a second option for the day.
Time to allow
Allow half a day for the Alka Museum, town centre and a break. Keep a full day if you add Stari Grad and lunch. These are editorial estimates. A museum visit explains the Alka tradition but does not include attendance at the annual tournament.
Without a car
Use the tourist board’s arrival guide and check your actual bus from Split or another starting point, including the return. Walk the centre first. If you add a countryside activity, arrange its meeting point and transfer separately.
Arriving by car
Follow signed parking on arrival and confirm any event-related traffic changes. Ask your accommodation or booked venue about its parking. A normal town visit and the Alka or Assumption celebrations can require different arrival planning.
Rain, heat and a change of plan
Check the Alka Museum’s current visiting arrangements for a rainy-day focus. In heat, keep the Stari Grad climb for a cooler hour and make it optional. Confirm specific access needs with the venue before travel; an indoor museum and a hill walk have different demands.
