Destination
Trogir
Trogir rewards attention to detail: Radovan’s portal, stone palaces and Kamerlengo reveal the town through short walks. After the centre, stay for a waterfront stretch.

About the destination
Connect the cathedral and Kamerlengo through the old town. Beaches in Okrug or Seget require an additional walking or transport plan.
Make the old town a slow walk
Trogir’s compact historic island rewards looking above shopfront level. Use the Tourist Board’s ten-step walk as a flexible set of stops: Town Hall courtyard, St Nicholas monastery, South Gate, Riva and St Dominic; further inland are the Garagnin-Fanfogna complex (now the Town Museum), Ćipiko palaces, Cathedral of St Lawrence and main-square loggia. Add Kamerlengo by the waterfront; check the fortress page for its current visitor information before setting out, as hours and admission details can change. Follow the board’s self-guided city walk and let the lanes between stops be part of the visit.
Where to base yourself
Decide whether you want to sleep on the historic island or make a bridge crossing part of your routine. Compare apartments and hotels by exact address and arrival arrangements, especially if you will bring luggage or a car. A stay on the historic island keeps the lanes and landmarks close; Čiovo offers a different coastal base, with accommodation and beach areas across the bridge. Confirm the route and bridge crossing that suit your plans.
Eat with local character
Ask about Dalmatian dishes such as peka, brodetto or buzara, and leave room for rafiol, Trogir’s traditional filled pastry with a local legend attached. The Tourist Board notes that the city’s fish market and open market supply ingredients to local kitchens. Its dining guide also describes family-run places and more contemporary menus. Decide whether you want to remain among the stone lanes or take dinner across to Čiovo or a marina; these are different settings from the old-town lanes.
Evenings by the water
The Riva is a natural place to pause after sightseeing, while summer cultural events can bring concerts, theatre and performances to venues such as Kamerlengo. The programme varies by season, so use the current official events calendar for dates rather than assuming a nightly show. For a quieter evening, stroll the old-town streets after day visitors thin out, then choose a café or restaurant from the Tourist Board’s local guide. Check fortress access separately if you plan an event there.
Before you set out
Plan your visit
Choose the pace, check the journey and keep a second option for the day.
Time to allow
Give the historic island, cathedral square and waterfront a relaxed half day with one indoor visit. A full day leaves time for lunch and a second stop. These are editorial estimates; the compact centre is not a reason to rush between every monument.
Without a car
Promet Split’s line 37 connects Split, the airport and Trogir. Check the current timetable, boarding stop and return rather than assuming it departs from Split’s port bus station. Once in Trogir, make the historic centre a walking visit.
Arriving by car
Choose a signed parking area outside the old streets and continue on foot. If staying in the historic core, ask the host where to unload luggage and park. Allow for traffic at the approaches and bridges; a short map distance does not guarantee a quick drive.
Rain, heat and a change of plan
For rain, check the cathedral complex or a museum’s visiting arrangements before making it your main stop. In heat, walk the waterfront and stone lanes early or later in the day. Tower climbs and monument interiors have their own tickets and access conditions.
