Split and Trogir in three days

Roman Split, Marjan and Veli Varoš, then a day among Trogir’s stone lanes.

Jump to a section

Before you go

Use Split as your base. Walk on the first two days; for Trogir choose a bus or car and confirm both directions in advance. Promet Split lists the Split-Trogir connection; check its current stops and timetable. Keep the Trogir day clear of tight flight or ferry departures. Swap the days if weather or monument opening arrangements require it.

Day 1: Palace and waterfront

Peristyle and palace passages

Start at the Peristyle and choose a few passages to explore. Decide which interior interests you before buying tickets; the cathedral, substructures and other monuments have their own visiting arrangements. Leave a generous lunch break afterwards.

An afternoon on the Riva

Continue to the waterfront and stop for a drink where you like the view. Keep the evening in Split rather than adding an island crossing. If the palace felt busy earlier, return for another short walk.

Day 2: Marjan at your own pace

Choose a Marjan walk

Use the official visitor information to choose a marked route and a turnaround point. Start with the viewpoint you most want to see and extend the walk only if you feel like it. Take water and shoes suited to the chosen path.

Veli Varoš

On the way back from Marjan, explore Veli Varoš. The neighbourhood climbs the hillside through narrow streets and traditional stone houses. Choose a short loop through the lanes and look for the small Church of St Nicholas, then head down for lunch.

Day 3: A day in Trogir

Trogir’s old-town island

Travel from Split using the connection you checked in advance. Trogir’s historic centre occupies a small island: use its compact streets for a slow walk towards the main square. Notice how churches, palaces and fortifications fit into the same close-built town.

Cathedral of St Lawrence

Make the cathedral and its carved portal the focus of the square. Choose an interior visit only after checking the current visitor arrangements. Continue through the old-town streets towards Kamerlengo for a look at the fortifications from outside, then return to Split with a transport buffer.
