Umag
Umag combines a small harbour town with a strong tennis identity. Mix the waterfront, town museum and nearby Savudrija for an active day in northwestern Istria.

About the destination
Start with the harbour and old town
Use the waterfront as your introduction to Umag, then turn into the old town’s lanes around the Church of the Assumption and its bell tower. This makes a compact town visit with room for a pause rather than a checklist of distant stops. The Town Museum, associated with the old defensive tower, is a possible cultural addition; check which exhibitions are available for your dates.
Tennis or Savudrija: pick a direction
Umag’s tennis identity is a reason to look beyond the historic centre, but attending an event and booking a court are different plans. Check the venue and programme that match your interest. Alternatively, make Savudrija a separate coastal outing, with its lighthouse as a landmark. Do not fold the trip into your old-town walking time or assume that seeing the lighthouse from outside includes entry.
Before you set out
Choose the town, tennis or a coastal excursion as the main part of your day, then add a second stop only if transport and timing work. Confirm current museum access, event arrangements and local transport before leaving. The official Umag attractions guide and Town Museum page are useful starting points. Keep time for the return journey if you leave the centre.
Before you set out
Plan your visit
Choose the pace, check the journey and keep a second option for the day.
Time to allow
Keep half a day for the harbour, old town and a museum if open. Allow a full day for a separate coastal or tennis stop. These are editorial estimates; Savudrija is another outing, not a continuation of a short old-town loop.
Without a car
Confirm arrival and return to your actual accommodation, especially outside the centre. Walk the harbour and old streets, then arrange transport for a stop farther along the coast. Do not assume a seasonal tourist service operates throughout the year.
Arriving by car
Choose signed parking near your main visit and check current conditions. If attending tennis or a festival, use that event’s arrival instructions. A normal town parking plan does not establish access or a reserved space at an event venue.
Rain, heat and a change of plan
For rain, check the Town Museum’s current exhibition and visiting arrangements. In heat, walk the seafront earlier or later and keep a long break. Viewing Savudrija’s lighthouse from outside does not imply that its interior is open.
