Pula and Rovinj by car

A three-day first taste of Istria: Roman Pula, Rovinj’s old town and a quieter coastal day.

Before you go

This route covers Pula and Rovinj, not the whole peninsula. Use a car between the towns and walk within the historic centres. Check official parking and access information before arrival; no parking place or drive time is promised. Avoid scheduling a tasting before driving.

Day 1: Roman Pula

Arena

Make the amphitheatre your main visit of the day. Check the official ticket and visitor information, then take the time to look around rather than rushing towards the next town. Leave lunch outside the sightseeing schedule.

On ToCroatia: Pula Arena

Forum and Temple of Augustus

Continue through the centre to the Forum and the Temple of Augustus. Choose an interior visit only if its opening arrangements suit the day. Spend the evening in Pula, or transfer to your accommodation with no further stops planned.

On ToCroatia: Pula

Day 2: Rovinj on foot

Old-town lanes

Travel to Rovinj, park according to local instructions and continue on foot. Follow the lanes towards St Euphemia, taking your time on the uphill streets. Keep the climb optional if it does not suit your group.

On ToCroatia: Rovinj Old Town

House of Batana

After lunch, visit the House of Batana to understand the wooden boats behind Rovinj’s fishing identity. Its multimedia display documents boat-building skills and local maritime life. Check its seasonal visiting information. A boat ride or evening programme is a separate arrangement, not an automatic part of museum admission.

Day 3: A slower coastal day

Golden Cape Forest Park

Use the official local information to choose a walk in Golden Cape Forest Park. Keep it to a manageable out-and-back or short loop. Conditions on the day decide whether you stay outdoors longer or return to town.

Along the way: Finish with lunch and collect any things you left at your accommodation. Keep the departure stretch clear of timed sightseeing. Extend the trip to inland Istria on another day rather than squeezing it into this last afternoon.
