Đakovo
Start with St Peter’s Cathedral, then choose a closer look at Đakovo’s Lipizzaners. The city and the pastures of Ivandvor belong to the same day, with a little planning.

About the destination
Đakovo gives a day in Slavonia two very different focal points: the brick towers of St Peter’s Cathedral and the Lipizzaner horses of the State Stud. Leave time between them for the city itself. A walk, a coffee and a meal make more sense here than racing from one photograph to the next.
Begin with the cathedral
Bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer commissioned the cathedral, built between 1866 and 1882. Its scale makes an immediate impression, but the interior rewards a slower look: painted biblical scenes, ornamental surfaces and sculpted altars form part of a deliberately coherent design. Choose one section to examine before trying to take in everything at once.
This is a working place of worship. If a service is taking place, leave sightseeing and photographs until afterwards, and follow the instructions on site. Start with the square and exterior if the timing is unsuitable; a visit need not begin at the door.
One stud, two separate visits
Pastuharna, at Augusta Šenoe 45 in Đakovo, is the stud’s training location. Its stables and riding arena introduce the work behind equestrian performances. Ivandvor, around six kilometres from the centre, is a separate site associated with broodmares and young horses. Visitor paths around the enclosures and a display of a traditional Slavonian farmstead give that stop a different focus.
Choose the location that interests you, or plan transport between both. Check the stud’s current visitor arrangements before setting off. A guided visit and an announced performance are different offers; neither outdoor horses nor a training session should be assumed. Follow staff guidance around the animals.
Make room for the city
Build the day around any confirmed stud booking, then fit the cathedral and a relaxed break around it. For more context before choosing your visit, read our story of Đakovo’s Lipizzaners. The useful souvenir is an understanding of how the two locations belong together, alongside the pictures.
