About the destination
Choose your part of the island
Dugi Otok contrasts an indented eastern coast with an outer shore facing the open Adriatic. Its length makes a focused visit more satisfying than a race between opposite ends. In the northwest, Sakarun offers pale sand and shallow water; the Veli Rat lighthouse adds a different coastal stop. Choose a beach day with time to linger, rather than assuming every cove has the same shore or entry into the water.
Match the boat to your base
The Brbinj ferry differs from passenger connections to Sali and Zaglav. The car ferry uses Zadar’s Gaženica port. Check the operator’s departure point, arrival port and return sailing for your date. Arrange onward transport before booking an island address: landing on Dugi Otok does not place you beside either Sakarun or your accommodation.
Give Telašćica its own day
In the southeast, Telašćica Nature Park combines a sheltered bay, high outer cliffs and salt lake Mir. Sali is the closest settlement for land access. Choose between a land visit with walking time and a boat excursion according to the experience you want. Ask what an excursion actually includes, including park entry and time ashore. Follow marked routes and protection rules rather than treating cliffs and sensitive habitats as unrestricted viewpoints.
Stay for the harbours too
Use Sali for harbour time and a meal; the official dining directory gives options to check directly. A base near Sali suits a southern itinerary, while a northwest address changes the balance towards Sakarun and Veli Rat. Walking, cycling, paddling and diving need different equipment and conditions. Select one activity that fits your stay and confirm its arrangements rather than building a short visit around several uncertain connections.
