Island or archipelago
Vis
Vis brings together two harbour towns, inland vineyards and cliff-framed coves. Give Vis town, Komiža and the island’s agricultural interior their own time, with boat excursions planned around the sea.

About the destination
Begin in Vis town
After arriving, follow the bay towards Kut for stone houses, waterfront pauses and historic streets. The tourist board’s published description of a heritage walk distinguishes this town route from ancient Issa’s archaeological sites, including the Roman theatre area at Prilovo and the Martvilo necropolis. Choose a guided walk if you want help interpreting scattered remains. A stay near the harbour makes arrival convenient; Kut places you at another end of the bay, worth checking when carrying luggage.
Visit Komiža and its fishing heritage
On the western side, Komiža has its own harbour and a strong fishing identity. The Komuna fortress houses the Fishing Museum; combine a visit with the riva and lanes behind it. Biševo and its Blue Cave are a further sea excursion from this side of the island. When choosing a boat trip, ask about the actual stops, cave-entry arrangements and the return to Komiža.
Spend time in the vineyard interior
Plisko polje lies among the island’s inland vineyards. Along with the hamlets around Dračevo polje, it gives you a reason to stop between the two towns. Arrange a cellar or family-konoba visit and ask about Vugava or Plavac mali, two wines highlighted by the regional tourist board. For food, look for the local savoury pogača with salted fish and onion; Vis and Komiža have their own versions. Set aside time for a meal and organise transport before a tasting.
Choose Stiniva with the approach in mind
High cliffs enclose Stiniva’s pebble beach, reached on land by a steep and demanding descent from the Žužec area. Consider the climb back when deciding whether it suits your group. Take walking shoes, water and time for the return. A boat visit is a separate option to discuss with an operator, with landing and swimming decisions dependent on the sea and local rules.
Choose a base for several days
Use the Split-Vis ferry information to plan the island crossing and onward travel if staying in Komiža or inland. Vis town suits arrival and repeated town walks; Komiža suits fishing heritage and western excursions; an inland stay brings you closer to vineyards. Evenings can revolve around a konoba meal or a waterfront drink. The official Vis calendar and Komiža’s calendar are the place to choose a dated concert or cultural event. Keeping a free day helps when the weather changes a planned boat outing.
