Osječka Tvrđa
Tvrđa is Osijek’s historic fortress quarter beside the Drava. Its star-shaped defences were built in the early 18th century; much of the wall was later demolished, but the Water Gate and a stretch of river-facing fortification survive. The gate makes a useful starting point for a walk into the old town.

A closer look
Continue to Trg Svetog Trojstva, the heart of Tvrđa. The Baroque Holy Trinity monument stands in the square, alongside the former General’s Headquarters and the historic Main Guard. The Archaeological Museum Osijek and the Museum of Slavonia give the walk a cultural stop; check each museum’s current exhibition and opening information before visiting. Tvrđa also has cafés and restaurants, so the quarter is worth seeing beyond its monuments.
